Among the many polarizing and fascinating turns that carved our cultural landscape in 2016, none might be so unfondly remembered as the celebrities we lost. We said goodbye to such names as David Bowie, Natalie Cole, Alan Rickman, and even Earth’s purplest, funkiest, and psychedelic symbol of love, Prince. As we approach the one-year anniversary of the death of the legend himself, the world turns its eyes to Las Vegas, specifically the Westgate Hotel & Casino. Jason Tenner, the featured talent and uncanny impersonator of Prince, has created a tribute show in Las Vegas that is worthy of his memory.
With his electrifying songs, sensual dance moves, ability to play dozens of instruments and purple everything, his talent was limitless. His last live show came just seven days before he died of an accidental prescription-drug overdose, leaving behind devastated family, friends and fans. “The more he evolved as an artist, the greater the songs were,” said longtime collaborator Sheila E. “I watched him change and grow into a musical icon. It was amazing.” Purple Reign and Jason Tenner excel in capturing this very concept.
From humble beginnings in small UNLV college clubs to late night T.V., Purple Reign has risen to international acclaim and recognition as the world’s number one Prince Tribute. Purple Reign captures the imagination and seamlessly re-creates the blistering performances and raw energy of Prince in his prime and returns guests to the era that made "The Artist" an international superstar. Featuring a tribute to Morris Day and The Time, this show is a must see for "Purple Rain" movie fans and all live music fans alike.
On November 17, 2008 the group became the 1st ever tribute/impersonator act to appear as the musical guest on Late Show with David Letterman. That show was chosen by CBS and Late Show to ring in the New Year and re-aired January 1st, 2009 at 12:15 a.m. (New Years Eve) less than 45 days later, making it the first musical performance of 2009 on Letterman. 2009 also saw Purple Reign crowned "Best Tribute Act" by the 28th annual Las Vegas Review Journal Poll, winning two awards by both the staff and readers. Most recently, the show won "Best Impersonator" in the 2014 LVRJ poll, and was chosen as the season three opener for AXS TV's: The World's Greatest Tribute Bands.
